sUMMER 2023 - Work in progress
This summer I worked through painting the backlog of pottery that I threw in the winter and spring of 2023, as well as some of the larger vases that I worked my way up to throwing. pots that were thrown earlier this year are less refined, but were painted later on and with a deeper knowledge of underglaze painting techniques. Newer thrown pots feature a more refined form and are generally a bit larger.
in the future, I plan to work on centering and pulling larger pots more evenly, and creating similarly elaborate and conceptual ceramic pieces. I also want to work on creating the perfect size mug for lattes, my preferred morning drink.

spring 2023
This spring I focused more on experimenting with underglaze and glaze painting, developing a sense of how thick to layer on the various glazes, and painting some of the pots I threw in the past winter. I also began Working on creating more rounded and delicate handles.
in the future, I would love to work more on fleshing out the crying heart design to make it more vibrant and expressive.

winter 2023
These are the first ceramic pots thrown after a one-and-a-half-year break from pottery. featuring scraffito eight-pointed star patterns across each cup’s exterior and Amaco’s cosmic tea dust on the interior of each cup. these cups are loosely inspired by night sky imagery from illuminated medieval manuscripts. I also started playing around with both floral and sacred heart imagery, testing out underglaze painting.
future versions of the starry mug will include: scraffito while mugs are leather hard to improve linework; the removal of amaco’s cosmic tea dust from the center of the stars; larger mug sizes; addition of cosmic tea dust to the handle; and more refined handles.
summer 2021
-
In my first ceramics class, i produced my first butterfly mug. as this was my first class, i primarily focused on centering the clay and learning how to pull.
-
in my second ceramics class i produced my butterfly x mush mugs, and my mush mugs. in this class i felt much more comfortable working with the clay and centering, although i still struggled to pull evenly.
THESE MUGS WERE PRODUCED DURING MY FIRST two 6-week CERAMICS CLASSES AT STUDIO 212 IN MARYVILLE, Tn. these are each prototypes and experimentations for mug designs and styles as i learn the technical aspects of working with clay and develop my skills with ceramics. In the future i hope to continue expanding my pottery skills and knowledge and experimenting more with different glazes, mug and ceramics forms, and various botanical and celestial inspired designs.
